Let's get our broken pavements fixed

Wandsworth Council has forked out nearly £400,000 in the last three years compensating injured pedestrians.

Local Lib Dems recently uncovered that Wandsworth Council has forked out nearly £400,000 in compensation claims over the last three years from pedestrians who have been injured due to broken pavements, after submitting a Freedom of Information request. This is clearly not a good use of taxpayers’ money and is preventable.

Many of you have mentioned tripping up on pavements or being worried about uneven surfaces in Southfields. We were alarmed to hear from one resident that she was left badly injured and on crutches after tripping on a pavement in The Grid. She had to pay nearly £1,000 out of pocket on physio fees over six months.

Local Lib Dems are campaigning to get our pavements and roads fixed so that they’re safe for everyone. It’s right that the Council is held accountable for these accidents as victims may face extensive medical bills and rehabilitation costs.

We’ve launched a petition that calls on Wandsworth Council to urgently fix the worst pavements in Southfields so that our area is safe for everyone.
