TfL has reduced daytime frequencies on the G1 route, with buses running every 20 minutes instead of every 15 minutes until 7pm Monday to Saturday.
Why the G1 service matters
The G1 is an important service, which runs between Clapham Junction and Streatham, connecting many parts of Wandsworth with both St George’s Hospital and Springfield Hospital.
Clapham Junction and Furzedown patients without a car rely on this bus for consultations and treatments.
It is also the only bus route serving Burntwood Lane. It is used by the pupils of Burntwood School, and by the residents of the new housing development in Springfield, and visitors to Springfield Park.
There are sports pitches on Springfield Park, which will be used from autumn 2025. More pitches are under development. This means more children and families will need to travel through Burntwood Lane. The G1 is a small bus, and the timetable reduction may result in buses being full, forcing families to drive instead, or causing children to skip their physical activity.
Reducing the service while more people need to travel to and through the Springfield area does not make sense.

Restore the Full G1 Bus Service
TfL has cut G1 buses from every 15 minutes to every 20 — just when more people need them. This lifeline route links Clapham Junction, Springfield, and St George’s Hospital, and is the only bus serving Burntwood Lane. Less frequent buses mean longer waits, more crowded journeys, and fewer options for patients, pupils, and families. Sign now to tell TfL and Wandsworth Council: reverse the cuts and bring back the full G1 service.
